Residential scheme transforms previously derelict site

Great Places Housing Group has completed a £2.3m development in Rotherham.

It is the group’s first fully completed scheme as part of its second Strategic Partnership agreement with Homes England.

The 52-week project at Kilnhurst Rd in Rawmarsh has transformed a former derelict brownfield site into 20 homes for affordable rent.

Delivered in partnership with Allert Building and Construction Ltd, the development was completed two months ahead of schedule and all properties are now occupied.

Completion paves the way for the Great Places’ other developments in Rotherham, with sales launches for two developments in Catcliffe and Waverley this month, and the further completion of an additional 84 homes for affordable rent in Thrybergh.

The sales will be managed by Plumlife Sales, Great Places’ in-house sales arm.

Nick Gornall director of development at Great Places, said: “This milestone development marks the start of our ambitious programme to complete 6,000 new homes across the North between 2023 – 2028 and has transformed this site into 20 much-needed affordable homes in the local area.

“Building much-needed affordable housing in all the areas we operate in continues to be a key priority for us.

“There’s high demand from customers in all the areas we develop, and we’re committed to playing our part in alleviating the shortage of affordable housing in the North.”

Dave Allert, managing director at Allert Building and Construction, added: “This is the second scheme we’ve delivered over the last two years in Rotherham.

“Totalling 48 homes, the schemes have delivered well designed homes built with exception care and an attention to detail to meet the aspirations and requirements of Rotherham MBC, Great Places and the local community.

“We look forwarding to working with Great Places again in the near future.”
