Steel group wins contract for 1m sq ft South Yorkshire development

BARNSLEY steel group Billington Holdings has won the contract to provide 5,000 tonnes of steel for the Doncaster development that will house a 1m sq ft Next warehouse.
The group has signed a contract with Bowmer & Kirkland to provide the structural steel, which will include portal frames and stability bracing designed to split the warehouse into five compartments.
Mark Smith, chief executive of Billington, said: “The construction of a distribution warehouse on such a large scale involves a great deal of complex planning. The fact that Bowmer & Kirkland has once again chosen Billington Structures to provide the structural steelwork for one of their most significant and prestigious projects, and indeed clients in Next, is testament to Billington’s quality, reliability and performance.”
The project, which includes a four-storey office structure and link bridge, is underway and is due for completion in August 2015.
Last month Billington announced it was to pay its first dividend since 2010 after it out-performed market expectations. Pre-tax profits in 2014 rose by £1m to £1.9m after sales increased 15% to £45.1m in 2014.
