City Council set to miss out after fitness club collapse

Derby City Council looks set to take a financial hit after a city fitness club collapsed into administration owing it £87,461 in July.

Administrators from Smith Cooper were appointed to Funktion Fitness’s parent company Funky Fitness Club, which was based in Derby County’s iPro Stadium, in July after the firm failed to pay the rates to Derby City Council – a debt dating back to January 2013.

It has since emerged that Funky Fitness Club owed £127,521 to creditors, including over £11,000 to HMRC, but that only £43,931 has been raised from the sale of assets, leaving a deficity for creditors of £84,595.

Other creditors listed include ADS Accountancy of Derby, Derby County Football Club, Else Solicitors of Burton on Trent and Peninsula Business Services of Manchester.
