Henry Boot set to develop 120,000 sq ft office scheme in Nottingham

Developer Henry Boot is set to transform Nottingham’s Central Library into a 120,000 sq ft Grade A office scheme after the City Council said that it was offloading the building.

According to reports, Henry Boot is in talks with the Council about transforming the 30,000 sq ft, four-storey library into much-needed office space in Nottingham city centre.

Henry Boot has an impressive track record in the city, having worked on The Poynt and Axis building.

Councillor Jon Collins, leader of the city council, is quoted as saying: “The sale of this site is another move toward a better city centre in Nottingham, with top end, attractive office space and the opportunity for a more modern and attractive central library.

“We’re very early in the discussions about what this will look like but have been impressed with the plans Henry Boot have put forward and their previous work across the city, and look forward to working with them.”

He added: “Redeveloping the site will mean temporary changes to library provision – a building site is hardly the environment for a library, after all. But we have options and will be working with the developers to continue to provide these services while works are ongoing.”

Those opposed to the plans have until this Thursday to raise “valid concerns” about the development.

The future of the library remains unclear, but the City Council hasn’t ruled out it being part of any new development, say reports. In any case,  the city will get a new Central Library, says the Council.
