Belper firm completes work on £21m university building

Work on a £21m medical school at the University of Lincoln has been completed by Derbyshire’s Phoenix Brickwork.

The national brickwork, scaffolding and drywall firm, which set up a decade ago in Belper, provided infrastructure for the new student facility.

The £750,000 contract saw a 12-strong team from Phoenix Brickwork, deliver specialist brickwork, insulation and fire safety services for the School of Medicine.

The 24-week project was completed on time and on budget.

Phoenix Brickwork was selected by main contractor, BAM Construction. The facility will feature a range of laboratories such as clinical skills suite, an anatomy suite and a category 2 science laboratory, lecture theatres and other laboratories. To aid medical students’ learning, it will also provide a clinical skills suite with mock consultation rooms, which could be used to simulate hospital wards or a GP surgery.

“It was particularly rewarding to have been involved in the creation of this cutting-edge facility for the University of Lincoln.
