Wilson Bowden teams up with Greene King and Aldi to create 85 jobs

Some 85 jobs are set to be created after Nottingham City Council gave the go ahead for a new pub and supermarket on the outskirts of the city.

Wilson Bowden will build a 18,761 Aldi supermarket alongside a 12,841 sq ft Greene King pub on the Woodhouse Park development, which is currently being developed with 300 new homes.

The site, formally known as Nottingham Business Park, is owned by Wilson Bowden and was originally meant for use as office accommodation. However, due to low demand, the firm changed its priorities for the scheme.

Now, Wilson Bowden have teamed up with Aldi and Greene King to design a new local centre, which will include an Aldi neighbourhood food store and a Farmhouse Inn, to be operated by Greene King.

A design statement drawn up by Stoas Architects reads: “The proposed development will provide a much needed new local centre for the existing and proposed residential developments and also the business park which currently have limited provision.

“There will be an increase in main food store provision that help meet the retail needs
of the local catchment area by enhancing consumer choice.

“We believe the proposals represent a well thought out and sensitive response to the constraints of the site. The Aldi food store provides an amenity to the local area which is currently lacking, along with the creation of local jobs. Aldi and Greene King both look forward to becoming considerate neighbours and a valued part of the local community.”
