Club’s equipment seized after noise complaints
A club at the centre of noise complaints over loud music has had its equipment confiscated by council officers.
Leicester City Council’s noise and pollution control team seized microphones, mixing desks, a keyboard and several large speakers from the Latimer Ward Conservative Club, in Surrey Street, Belgrave, following ongoing complaints from neighbours about excessive noise.
Residents had complained over the last 18 months about unacceptable noise from amplified music and voices from the club’s function room which was making it difficult for them sleep.
Officers who witnessed the problem had written to the venue’s operators five times about the noise from events at Emvee Lounge, but a further noise nuisance was witnessed in the early hours of Sunday, November 6.
As a result, Leicester Magistrates Court granted the noise and pollution control team a warrant to enter the club and remove noise making equipment.
The seizure was carried out on November 11, with the assistance of Leicestershire Police.
In total they confiscated 22 items of sound equipment including microphones, mixing desks, an electric keyboard and a number of large speakers.
The noise and pollution control team are now also planning to review the venue’s club premises certificate. They could reduce the hours of operation or add additional conditions to prevent further noise problems.
Further reports of noise nuisance could mean more seizures of equipment and the likelihood of the person responsible for the club being prosecuted, which carries a maximum fine of up to £20,000.
