Traffic alert: M1 closed in Leicestershire

The M1 in Leicestershire is closed southbound between J21 (Leicester) and J20 (Rugby) due to a road traffic collision, Highways England is reporting.

The northbound carriageway had all traffic stopped between J20 and J21 for Air ambulance, but has since been released.

Traffic travelling southbound are advised to follow the black square diversion route via the M69 southbound to J1, the A5 southbound and then the A403 eastbound to re-join at M1 J20.

Road users are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys and may wish to consider using an alternative route if possible.

Highways England says the southbound lane will be closed until aroud 3.30pm.
