Horse racing trainer invests six figure sum in Oakham

Trainer Mick Appleby is launching new facilities in Oakham, Rutland after investing a six-figure sum in his horse racing business.
Appleby has more than 30 years’ experience in horse racing and has spent the last six years training horses for more than 200 UK-based and overseas owners.
He has more than 80 horses and had over 70 winners last year.
Mick has bought a 75-acre site at Oakham which is being developed to provide horse training facilities including a mile long all-weather gallops, an indoor training school and equine pool.
Langleys Solicitors acted for Mick Appleby Racing on the purchase of the site which should be fully developed by spring 2017.
Mick said: “I was previously renting a yard in Newark and decided it was time to expand and invest in my own facilities. My aim is to make it one of the best horse training complexes in the country.”
The business employs 22 people. The majority of the horses’ owners are in the UK but Mick also has clients in Kuwait, Germany and Sweden.
Andrew Fearn, partner in private client at Langleys Solicitors, said: “Mick is a well-respected horse racing trainer and we are pleased to have supported him and his team in their ambitions to grow the business and provide first class facilities for their leading thoroughbred race horses.”
