Christmas pudding maker to create 45 jobs

2 Sisters Food Group is to spend £250,000 on its Matthew Walker factory in Heanor in a move that will create 45 jobs.

2 Sisters managing director, Keith Packer, said: “We have seen strong year-on-year growth in seasonal pudding, and this will provide us with a lunch pad to drive further sales, and build on the wealth of knowledge and experience that already resides on site.”

Matthew Walker currently emplolys 120 people in Heanor. The factory opened in 1967 – before that the firm had been making Christmas puddings in Derby since 1899.

Anhil Ahir, site general manager, said: “We’re all very excited about the plans to expand and it will create new jobs in the local community as well as allow us to grow and innovate our business.

“You migjt not be able to teach an old dog new tricks, but you can’t say the same about the world’s oldest Christmas pudding maker.”
