Historic Burton pub up for sale for £235,000

The New Inn dates back to 1760

A former coaching inn in Needwood, Burton-on-Trent, that dates from 1760 is up for sale for £235,000.

The New Inn in Burton Road features in an SDL Auction Graham Penny’s auction at Pride Park, Derby, on Thursday, 8 June.

Senior valuer Robert Stone said the property, which stands on a prominent corner plot, offered a variety of opportunities.

“It has a particularly attractive appearance and offers approximately 6,000 sq ft over three storeys.

“It is a renovation project that provides an excellent investment opportunity that could see it brought back to its former glory as an inn and restaurant.

“Or, and subject to the usual planning consents, it could potentially be ripe for conversation into residential apartments,” he said.

Stone added: “Overall, the New Inn provides excellent investment potential.

“It may be of interest to prospective buyers that the current owners have spent considerable time and effort in appointing architects to draw up alternative proposed schemes.

“Proposed in the first set of drawings is an additional extension with Orangery garden room located to the rear of the existing pub along with a detached coach style building consisting of six lettable rooms located to the south end of the car park.

“A further set of drawings will indicate a proposed economical new build public house restaurant which would have a particularly attractive period style façade and with letting rooms above,” he said.
