25 jobs to be created after Leicester care home deal

A former care home in Leicester which was previously owned by the City Council, has been purchased by a private healthcare company who will be reopening the premises in 2018, creating new jobs in the county.

Brookside Care Home in the Knighton area of the city has been purchased by Ally and Nazeera Toorabally who own Amethyst Healthcare (Knighton). The directors have three other care homes in Mansfield and Leicestershire.

Work at the site has started and it is expected to be completed in early 2018, consisting of 40 rooms, all with en-suite and shower facilities.

Director Ally Toorabally said: “We had been looking for suitable premises to add a further care home to our portfolio and when the opportunity arose to purchase this former home, we knew that it would fit with our wider offering of care in the Leicestershire area. Our plan is to develop the site to offer a high standard of care to our clients which we believe will take around nine months to complete, at which time, we will be looking to potentially recruit 25 new staff.”

Funding was provided by Barclays. Alan Mele, relationship director at Barclays, said: “Ally has a proven track record in the industry and we were delighted to be able to support him with the purchase of this home which he is keen to develop to extend the services he offers in the county.”
