Sowden to launch £30m housing scheme

Leicester property developer Sowden is bringing a £30m residential scheme in Melton Mowbray to market this weekend.

The Wyndham Grange development, close to the centre of Melton, consists of 44 three, four and five-bedroomed homes as well as luxury apartments in a renovated 19th century lodge and smaller dwellings in a French-style renovated coach house.

Almost half of the homes are finished or nearing completion, with the remainder, along with site services and roads, due for completion soon. Show homes are being opened on Saturday to show off the individually designed houses and apartments.

As well as the new homes, the site includes landscaping and five acres of communal woodland leading down to the River Eye. A nursing home is also planned for part of the site.

The land was previously owned by the NHS, having been the site of the 1920s War Memorial Hospital and associated hospital buildings and nurses’ accommodation. It has lain derelict for 15 years.

Sowden managing director Roy Coley said the site had become an eyesore, but now, with an attractive housing development, a completely refurbished lodge and coach house and the woodland leading to the river it was now destined to be a desirable addition to the Melton landscape.

“As well as providing much-needed new homes, it is attractively landscaped. Being just a short walk to the railway station and the centre of Melton we expect these house sand apartments to be snapped up quickly,” he said.
