Plans to transform former Nottingham factory site get go-ahead

Plans to build 81 flats on the site of run-down former factory have been given the go-ahead by Nottingham City Council.

Maryland Securities has been granted planning permission to build the first 81 apartments of a planned 310-home development on the grounds of the Forest Mill office block on Alfreton Road.

The Forest Mill scheme will be built in phases, with 81 flats and the commercial units, with an outline plan to build 229 more units on the site already secured

Maryland’s Jacob Jebreel told TheBusinessDesk.com: “We are delighted to be bringing forward this high quality mixed use project and look forward to progress this scheme with the local authority.”

Forest Mill was originally built as a lace factory. In 1950 Thackeray & Sons closed it down as the demand for lace declined and a failure to upgrade equipment to modern standards leading to its closure in the 1960s.
