Work starts on multi-million pound Castle Donington bypass

A bird's eye view of the new relief road

Work has started on a multi-million pound relief road designed to improve traffic flow in Castle Donington.

Delivered as part of a consortium, which includes Miller Homes, Clowes Developments and Redrow Homes, the road will connect Hill Top to Back Lane and provide access to the new residential and employment areas when they open.

The road will serve Miller Homes East Midlands’ Charters Gate development, which for phase 1 will eventually comprise of 159 homes

Alastair Parsons, area sales director for Miller Homes Midlands, said: “Our ambition is not just to deliver new homes but to create sustainable communities that benefit both existing residents and those who move there.

“We’re sure that the relief road will have a positive impact on the village, including the significant reduction of journey times for commuters. The road also aims to make life easier for workers travelling to the area’s growing number of business and logistics parks.”

Four roundabouts are planned for the 2.4km stretch of road, as well as access points to Charters Gate, the M&S distribution centre and other building and residential schemes in the pipeline.
