Derby must ’embrace city centre living,’ says investor

A property investor has warned that Derby cannot afford to miss out on the city living boom for a second time.

Speaking at TheBusinessDesk.com’s Developing Derby lunch on Thursday (31 January), Gavin Barry of Prosperity Capital Partners said: “Derby must grasp the opportunity it has now and embrace the culture of city living. As much as the city needs suits on the streets, it also needs students on the streets.

“Students add a vibrancy to any city centre and the economic benefits they bring will be felt by all.

“We were welcomed with open arms when we came to Derby three years ago and organisations like Marketing Derby have helped us massively, while agents like Russell Rigby have been fantastic. Every city should have a Russell Rigby.

“Derby is a unique market with further opportunities to explore. It has been a great experience and the business community has embraced us.”

Barry’s company funded London & UK Property’s £20.3m, 350-bed Cathedral Court student development on Cathedral Road in Derby and its currently building a second purpose-built student scheme at Cathedral View in the city.
