Software boss vows to keep disruptors behind him

Ben Dorks speaking at a TheBusinessDesk.com lunch

The chief executive of a listed Nottingham software firm that has grown to employ 500 staff says that it is still very much a people-focused business – despite posting a £14.3m profit in its latest results.

Talking to an audience of around 40 business leaders at our Tech Entrepreneurs Lunch at Gusto in West Bridgford, Ben Dorks said that he puts his success – and that of his company Ideagen – down to having a vision and never giving up.

At the event, which was sponsored by Ryley Wealth Management, Dorkssaid: “We focus on people, products and customers. We’re still very much a people business; all our success comes from our people. It can be difficult to have that strategy when we are a listed company, but we manage that well.”

Dorks added: “What makes us tick is that we support failure – we give feedback but we don’t criticise, and if a disruptor enters the market we attack them so we keep them behind us.”

Earlier this month, Ideagen announced it was launching several ‘Centre of Excellence’ sites across the world as it looks to strengthen its position in the multi-billion dollar governance, risk and compliance (GRC) software market.

The plans will see a total of 124 new jobs created globally, with over 40 new roles across the UK within its headquarters in Nottingham and its Scottish function in East Kilbride, near Glasgow.

Two new offices are also being launched, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and in Raleigh, North Carolina.
