Chemical fire closes M1

Early morning commuters using the M1 northbound this morning are set for delays after a trailer carrying chemicals caught fire.

The M1 in Leicestershire northbound between J23 and J23A is set to be closed until around 8am this morning as fire service workers remove the chemicals from the lorry.

A statement from Highways England this morning said: “Removal of containers of chemicals affected by the fire are now progressing well, prior to recovery of the vehicle. Please find an alternate route as these works are expected to take around three hours to complete.”
