Weekender: Scottish pop heroes make long overdue return to Nottingham

Bis

A Scottish indie pop band that enjoyed a Top of the Pops appearance and a string of chart hits in the 1990s is set to perform in Nottingham this October.

Bis, who famously performed their hit single “Kandy Pop” on BBC Television in 1996, will return to the city for the first time in over 20 years to headline the Nottingham Pop All-Dayer at The Old Cold Store on 12 October.

The Nottingham Pop All-Dayer, now in its eleventh year, welcomes the Scottish trio to the East Midlands having previously hosted a variety of pop luminaries including number one hit-maker White Town and Britpop malcontent Luke Haines.

Darren Hayman, frontman of perennial John Peel favourites Hefner, also joins the nine-band lineup. Bradford shoegazers The Hobbes Fanclub, London-based DIY indie post-punks Witching Waves and Nottingham’s own We Show Up On Radar join Bis, Hayman and four others to complete the bill.

Bis was formed in Glasgow in 1994 by Amanda MacKinnon (“Manda Rin”), Steven Clark (“Sci-fi Steven”) and John Clark (“John Disco”). The band has released five albums to date, including 2019’s “Slight Disconnects.”

The Nottingham Pop All-Dayer 2019 takes place on Saturday 12 October at The Old Cold Store @ the Vat & Fiddle next to Castle Rock Brewery. Doors open at 2.30pm. Tickets, which cost £13.50 (plus £1.35 booking fee), can be purchased here: https://www.wegottickets.com/event/467821
