On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

(L-R): Matthew Evans, RSM's Leicester managing partner Kevin Harris and Mitul Raja

RSM has appointed two new members of staff to bolster its Leicester office.

Matthew Evans and Mitul Raja have joined the firm as private client tax partner and audit director respectively.

Evans has made the switch to RSM from an independent wealth management business. He previously spent 15 years working for big four firms.

He said: “My reasoning for joining RSM is to be at a company that has ambition to grow, in an area where business owners are currently thriving. The East Midlands has a strong and resilient business community and the area has a great entrepreneurial spirit.

“For me, it is the right company, the right location and the right time. The private client services team within RSM locally is already well established and has significant potential for further growth given the concentration of owner managed businesses across the East Midlands region. Leicestershire in particular has a large cohort of high net worth individuals and families. By continuing to develop our team locally we aim to ensure a first-rate service is available to them, removing the need to seek advice from outside the region.”

Raja joins RSM having previously spent 13 years at KPMG. He has worked with a number of privately owned, PE backed and listed businesses.

He said: “The market in Leicester has seen significant growth among mid-market SMEs over the last few years, and there is a real desire from many business owners to have specialist support provided locally, which is something I am excited to be a part of.”

Elsewhere, Rolls-Royce has appointed a new non-executive director.

Chartered accountant George Culmer joins the Derby-based manufacturing giant from Lloyds Banking Group, where he was chief financial officer.

He will join the company’s board on 2 January 2020.

Culmer will become a member of Rolls-Royce’s nominations and governance committee.

He will also join the firm’s audit committee and its safety, ethics and sustainability committee.

Culmer played a key role in the Lloyds’ transformation and restoration to public ownership.

He is also a non-executive director at Aviva.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the Rolls-Royce Board. I am looking forward to making a contribution to the future of this pre-eminent brand.”
