Developer submits second set of plans for prime regeneration site

How the new scheme will look

Developer Cassidy Group has revealed re-designed plans to extend its Nottingham footprint after submitting plans to build more residential space in the city.

Cassidy, which already owns and has built several sites and schemes in Nottingham’s southern gateway, has turned to architect Maber to design a mixed-use development of 320 apartments along with 2,300 sq ft of retail space.

Cassidy has already submitted one planning application for the site. This included 149 private rented sector units, 420 student flats as well as shops and a gym to be designed by Stephenson Studio on derelict land west Of Arkwright Street and south Of Crocus Street.

A statement accompanying the new plans reads: “These proposals will provide the regeneration of a long-term derelict site within the important Meadows Gateway area.

“The scheme will provide 320 purpose-built, managed apartments for the private rental sector. The proposed design features high-quality robust natural materials which will compliment the surrounding streetscape together with the new attractive landscaped areas of public open space.

“The built form helps restore the streetscape of Arkwright Street which has been a gap site since the area was originally cleared in the 1970s. A new public open space is created at the Western edge of the site providing a pleasant entrance plaza outside the scheme and improving the journey from the Meadows across Sheriff’s Way for pedestrians heading into town.

“This development will greatly enhance the appearance and character of the local area as well as providing much needed housing.”
