Plans to turn landmark Nottingham building into flats shelved

The building on King Street

Plans to turn part of one of Nottingham’s most striking buildings into student flats have been shelved.

Johal, Munshi and Co wanted to turn the upper floors above The Alchemist bar and restaurant on King Street into 23 apartments.

The flats, which had been designed by Rayner Davies Architects, would have been on the first, second and third floors of the building.

However, fresh documents show that the planning application for the redevelopment of the space has been withdrawn.

The listed King Street Prudential Assurance Building is on the corner of King Street and Queen Street. It was designed by the renowned architect Alfred Waterhouse and built in 1893-1898. The building was listed as Grade II in 1972.

The space had been marketed as offices for some time, but remained vacant.
