Cladding to be replaced at student scheme ‘as a matter of urgency’

A major Nottingham student accommodation scheme is set to undergo a complete racladding after it was found to be covered in materials which have now been deemed dangerous.
Student Roost, which runs the Nottingham Two development on Midland Way in the city, will see the cladding on the building replaced.
The current cladding, which was given planning approval in 2008, is a mix of Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) and High Pressure Laminate (HPL) cladding.
A planning statement from Gerald Eve said: “Following recent major fire-related incidents at high rise residential blocks, the applicant has assessed the existing cladding as no longer being fit for purpose. The safety of residents is of the utmost priority to the applicant and as such the decision has been taken to remove this cladding as a matter of urgency.”
It adds: “The existing cladding does not comply with the relevant building regulations, and it is critical that it is replaced at the earliest opportunity.
“Planning permission should be granted without delay.”
