Motorists and the general public are being urged to stay clear of a block of flats on Crocus Street in Nottingham city centre after a fire broke out on the roof of the building.

Black smoke was seen rising from the roof of Saffron Court – a 350-apartment scheme built by the Cassidy Group.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have issued a statement saying: “Crews from London Road, West Bridgford, Carlton and Highfields Fire Station are currently in attendance at a fire on Crocus Street, Nottingham. Please avoid the area if you can.”
