Carillion liquidator takes major step forward in £250m claim against accountancy giant

The liquidators of collapsed Wolverhampton construction firm Carillion say they have taken a major step towards a huge legal claim against KPMG, the company’s former auditor.

Sky News is reporting that representatives of the Official Receiver have sent a pre-claim notice to KPMG in a bid to claim as much as £250m from KPMG.

The moves comes a month after the Official Receiver sealed a deal with Litigation Capital Management to fund the claim.

Carillion collapsed in January 2018 owing around £7bn to creditors.

The legal claim will allege that KPMG failed to spot mistakes in Carillion’s accounts.

Separately, KPMG is under investigation by the Financial Reporting Council over its work for Carillion.
