Developer to turn nightclub into 27,500 sq ft office space

The Birkin Building

One of Nottingham’s most iconic buildings could be turned into office space in a move which would bring 30 jobs to the city’s Lace Market area.

Spenbeck wants to transform the part of the Birkin Building from a nightclub into office space, in what will be a welcome move for businesses looking for high quality space in the city centre.

The company’s plans outline turning the nightclub building into some 27,500 sq ft of office space.

The move will mirror Spenbeck’s work on an adjoining section of the Birkin buidling, which saw 50,000 sq ft of office space completed in 2019.

The Birkin Building – which was designed by renowned architect TC Hine to house the international headquarters of Birkin & Co, world leaders in lace manufacturing, in 1855 – has been predominantly used to house a number of nightclubs for the past 25 years.

However, since 2012, Spenbeck has has developed and refurbished 50,000 sq ft of space in Grade II listed The Birkin Building and neighbouring properties, bringing creative spaces back into use as businesses in the historic heart of Nottingham.
