Derby-based contractor Cawarden has won a place on a new £1.1bn demolition and land preparation framework, with the news coming as the firm prepares to play a key role in the city’s £200m Becketwell regeneration scheme.

National procurement firm Pagabo has appointed 29 companies from across the UK to the framework, which is its first dedicated solely to demolition services.

The framework, which will run for four years, covers sectors including local authorities, education, highways, public utilities and museums and leisure.

Cawarden is set to kick off phase two of the Becketwell regeneration scheme in June when it begins structural demolition work on the site of the former Pink Coconut nightclub, NCP car park, Padley House and Dubrek Studios in Derby city centre.

Pagabo managing director Jason Stapley said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we had to the tender process for this framework and are really pleased to be bringing a unique and compliant procurement route to demolition services to the market with such a strong set of companies.

“There is a huge focus on the environmental impact that construction projects can have, and so demolishing old buildings with a negative impact and redeveloping brownfield land is becoming increasingly important for development schemes. But with these approaches come a whole host of challenges that require specialist services.

“This framework will ensure that clients can access those specialist services from the firms best placed to support, providing any scheme with the best start possible before redevelopment – and doing so in the most compliant and efficient manner possible in the market.”

Cawarden’s commercial director Oliver Crooks said: “We are delighted to be awarded a place as an England nationwide supplier on the £1.1 billion Demolition and Land Preparation framework. It was great for the Cawarden team to attend the framework launch event in Leeds earlier this week. We are now looking forward to working collaboratively with Pagabo and securing new opportunities through the framework to deliver quality projects whilst meeting client needs and expectations.”
