The University of Nottingham Students’ Union (UoNSU) cancelled its graduation ball, scheduled for Tuesday evening (June 13) in response to the attacks that led to three deaths in Nottingham city centre in the early hours of the same day.

The SU said it “stands in solidarity” with the wider city.

In a statement, the organisation said: “We are devastated and shocked by the tragic events that took place last night in the city centre. We stand in solidarity with all our students and the wider city, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of those harmed, alongside those directly and indirectly affected by the unfolding of these terrible events.

“In light of this, we have made the decision to cancel Grad Ball this evening. Attendees will be contacted in due course, but in the meantime, we are continuing to work with the University and relevant authorities to understand the situation.”
