Plans for major logistics site thrown out by planning committee

Enderby Logistics Hub

Plans for a major logistics hub that would’ve created 2,000 jobs at Enderby in Leicester have been thrown out the planning committee at Blaby District Council.

After thorough discussions, the long-awaited decision was delivered, bringing relief to the local community as the council rejected the hub’s plans.

The Enderby Logistics Hub’s plan would’ve seen four large warehouses built on 80 acres of farmland. The scheme has been under review by the Blaby District Council for four years, with the original application being presented in February 2019.

The decision was postponed originally to allow for further traffic modelling, which assessed potential effects on the nearby road network.

According to the applicants, Drummond Estate and The Inverock Trust the proposal would represent an investment of £200m in the local economy and would create around 2,000 permanent new jobs and 125 jobs during construction.

During the meeting residents’ opinions were heard with many against the logistics hub due to traffic and loss of green space concerns, while others saw it as a source of new jobs.

Signs created by local residents at the meeting read “1,400 Residents reject the Hub”, while there was also a collective effort of letters and online submissions running up to this meeting aimed at securing the rejection of the planning application.

So far, there hasn’t been any indication of an appeal.
