Derby racecourse becomes leisure hub in new development

Derby Racecourse is undergoing a transformation with the development of a new Football Hub.
The Hub will include a community building, three new 3G football turf pitches, and refurbishments to an existing pitch.
The project includes revitalising play areas, installing an outdoor gym with accessible equipment, adding a 3×3 player basketball court, and enhancing the trim trail for a more engaging recreational experience.
Plans have been submitted for approval to extend pathways, improve accessibility, install new benches, increase parking spaces, and introduce a community café with a Changing Places WC.
The collaboration between Derby City Council, the Premier League, The FA, and the Government’s Football Foundation has made the Derby Racecourse transformation and Football Hub development possible.
Upon completion in early 2024, the facilities will be leased to the National Football Trust and operated by Leisure United.
This transformation aims to positively impact the community by providing a dynamic space while enhancing recreational opportunities and biodiversity in the city.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, said: “Derby Racecourse is evolving into a vibrant community space with the Football Hub project. The transformation promises a positive impact, offering an inviting and dynamic space for all. While it’s already a well-used community space for football, the Football Hub project will elevate it beyond just a muddy field. It ensures year-round use, proper facilities, and increased biodiversity, enriching our city’s recreational opportunities.”
