Plans to build 25 homes in Hathern, near Loughborough, are facing objections from residents.

Residents of Brunsleigh Croft are raising concerns about the necessity for additional homes in the village, especially with the nearby Garendon Park Development in Loughborough.

Garendon Park is expected to have 3,200 homes upon completion and is located less than a mile from Hathern.

Charnwood Borough Council approved a planning application in 2020 for the construction of 18 homes on the same site.

However, the legal agreement was not finalised, leading to the refusal of the application.

Various objections to the plan were raised, including one resident expressing apprehension about the access to the site from A6 Loughborough Road, deeming it “dangerous” owing to its proximity to a pedestrian crossing.

Other concerns focused on the potential strain the development might place on village amenities.

Examples cited included the impact on available space for children in local primary schools and potential effects on the availability of doctor’s appointments in nearby surgeries.

The development will feature a mix of semi-detached houses, smaller one-bedroom terraced homes, and bungalows. The housing options will encompass one to four-bedroom properties, and the site will provide 48 parking spaces.

Feedback on the proposal can be submitted until Friday, January 5, with no decision date currently scheduled.
