East Midlands Combined County Authority unveils vision for region’s future

Council leaders are set to discuss the blueprint for the future of the region in the first formal meeting of the new East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) which takes place this week.
The EMCCA is made up of four leaders and deputy leaders from Derbyshire, Derby, Nottinghamshire and Nottingham councils.
Items on the agenda include the EMCCA’s economic framework, which is an initiative to enhance the well-being of all residents and professionals in the area.
The framework aims to channel investments to accelerate economic growth, improve transportation networks linking towns, cities, and employers in the East Midlands, and collaborate with partners to cultivate essential skills required across the region.
Intending to partner with local authorities, landowners, developers, and housing providers they also aim to create affordable housing options.
Innovative approaches to clean energy generation, supporting initiatives to reintegrate green spaces and nature into communities, and improving life expectancy and health outcomes, particularly in the region’s most marginalised areas, are also on the agenda
The board meeting will take place in Chesterfield ahead of the elections for the region’s first Mayor on May 2.
Following the board meeting, an EMCCA launch event is scheduled in Chesterfield, inviting partners and stakeholders from across the region.
