Cricket CEO issues plea for more memberships to avoid ‘a bleak future’

The chief executive of Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) has made a plea for more members, admitting that, if more cash isn’t generated this way, the future could be “very bleak”.
Sean Jarvis
Sean Jarvis has published an open letter, pointing out that while the Club has made great strides on the field in recent times, this hasn’t been replicated through an increase in memberships.
Jarvis says that LCCC is “no longer the perennial bottom club”, and is “looking up rather than down”.
In the letter, he points to successes such as Rehan Ahmed becoming the youngest-ever player to represent England in all formats, while both Rishi Patel and Josh Hull have featured in the England Lions set-up.
“The future looks bright,” he said.
Jarvis says that his team has invested in its UptonSteel County Ground home to make it “a welcoming environment” – and that more ambitious plan to develop it are in the pipeline.
However, he warned that the Club simply needs more members.
He added: “While we have a very loyal and supportive fanbase, the number are not sufficient for us to deliver our ambitious plans and continue to strive for more trophies. I would go so far as to say that if we do not see an upturn in membership, the future of the Club could be very bleak.”
“I want to be clear in my message: if the people of Leicestershire want a successful first-class cricket team, then support us. Our memberships are on sale at an early bird price for a month, starting Thursday August 29. They can be purchased at the ground or online at www.leicestershireccc.co.uk.”
Jarvis signed off the letter saying: “Please support us and don’t let the so-called bigger clubs dominate. By supporting the Foxes, you’ll not only be keeping cricket alive in Leicestershire, but also championing a team proud of its roots and determination to entertain.”
