Outline planning permission for a mixed-use development, featuring 1,800 homes and employment land, was granted at a planning committee meeting held on Tuesday (September 17).

Bolsover District Council has approved the development of a 1,800-home community across 59 acres of fields near Clowne, close to Barlborough.

The Clowne Garden Village, located off Hickinwood Lane, will feature a retirement village, a neighbourhood centre, a hotel, a restaurant, healthcare and care facilities, as well as leisure amenities.

Planning officer Steve Gill told the meeting that the development will contribute to growth and housing needs while creating employment opportunities and providing financial contributions under the 106 agreement.

A request was made to pause to allow a review of the site being on green belt land, however, Gill confirmed that the development will only partly be on green belt land.

Despite numerous objections to the development, the planning committee approved it with a vote of 8 in favour and 2 against, granting the project the green light.
