Former Wetherspoons pub set to be auctioned off

A former Wetherspoons pub in Newark, the Sir John Arderne, is set to be auctioned this week with a guide price of £300,000-£350,000.

The 14,000 sq ft, two-storey Georgian building closed in August last year, as part of Weatherspoons’ closure programme, with staff relocated to other branches.

It will be among around 240 properties and plots featured in an online auction by SDL Property Auctions, part of Eddisons, on 26 September.

Auctioneers suggest the building could be repurposed for various uses, pending planning approval for any changes.

Andrew Parker, auctioneer and partner at SDL Property Auctions, said: “This is a handsome and historic property, with lots of its original Georgian features still intact, that’s well located in the heart of the picturesque and well-connected market town of Newark.

“We’ve had considerable interest in the building from potential buyers and believe the premises could be split to create separate first-floor residential accommodation, potentially with two or three commercial units on the ground floor. After a year in which the former pub was disused, we are excited to see what the future might hold for the property in the hands of an imaginative new owner,”
