20 jobs lost as renowned Nottingham burger restaurant shuts up shop

Some 20 jobs have been lost after a renowned burger restaurant in Nottingham city centre suddenly shut.

The last orders have been taken at Annie’s Burger Shack in the Lace Market area of Nottingham, after staff were sent a letter announcing its immediate closure.

The letter read: “I regret to advise you that the board of directors has concluded that the company is not in a position to continue trading and steps are being taken to place the company into liquidation on 1 November 2024. In the meantime, it is necessary to bring the trading activities of the company to an immediate close.

“As a consequence, the company, as your employer, is no longer in a position to make payments for the services rendered by you under your contract of employment. You should therefore regard your employment as terminated for reasons of redundancy.”

Annie’s started life at the Old Angel pub in Nottingham in 2009. It was set up by Anmaria Spaziano, promising to bring “the original taste of New England” to the city. It expanded to Derby, but that restaurant has been closed for some time.
