Landmark Nottingham bar set to close

Via Fossa will close next week

Via Fossa, the Nottingham pub which was at the forefront of the redevelopment of Nottingham’s city centre canalside leisure revolution in the late 1990s, is set to close.

The pub, owned by Greene King, will shut for the last time on Friday October 19./

Via Fossa earned its reputation as the place to be when it opened as part of a wider regeneration complex on Canal Street in the 1990s. However, the area’s hospitality scene has been in sharp decline since the pandemic.

A statement from Greene King said: “It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the closure of Via Fossa. Our last day of trading is the 19th of October.

“Because of this, we are not taking any function/table bookings, and our stock is limited, so if you come by please don’t be disappointed if we dont have your favourite drink or meal!

“Via is a big part of our hearts and has been a staple of the canalside in Nottingham for a long time, so it is so upsetting that it is closing, but unfortunately these things happen.

“We thank everyone who has been a part of Via Fossa’s life, staff and customers alike, and we hope we see you all in other Greene Kings in future.”
