Plans to develop Nottinghamshire County Council-owned land move forward

Plans to develop land owned by Nottinghamshire County Council at the Top Wighay site near Hucknall have moved forward.

Following outline planning permission secured in 2022, work on residential units and the Oak House office building is already underway.

The next phase involves developing land designated for employment use, potentially for workshops, storage and distribution facilities.

Arc Partnership, acting on behalf of the county council, will commission a specialist agency to assess possible future uses for the land, including a study on delivering employment units.

A decision on the options will be made by the council in early 2025.

Councillor Keith Girling, cabinet member for economic development and asset management, said: “We have big plans for this development to bring more jobs, skills and inward investment to the area. With its central location, good public transport links and being close to the M1, this site could be an attractive location for businesses.

“We are a forward-thinking council, so providing workshops or business units for SMEs could be something we could consider.  This would not only help boost the local economy but would also help generate revenue which could be used towards other council services.  We will carefully look into all the options available to find what is best for this site.”

In September this year, housebuilder Vistry Group was given the green light to build 763 new homes at Top Wighay, Nottinghamshire.

The £191m development, granted outline planning permission in April 2021, is part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s (NCC) flagship mixed-use scheme.

The 86-acre site, contracted in 2023 with NCC and earmarked for development for more than a decade, will also include 21 acres of employment land, a local centre with retail offering and a new primary school.
