Former Boohoo warehouse snapped up by windshield repairer

Boohoo's factory on Thurmaston Lane in Leicester

Allscreens Nationwide has finalised a deal to acquire the former Boohoo warehouse on Thurmaston Lane, Leicester.

The Leicester-based windshield repair service will relocate its operations from its current base in Birstall to the 23,000 sq ft facility in the Rushey Mead area of Leicester.

Opened in 2022, the site was Boohoo’s first-ever manufacturing hub, with ambitions of also serving as a training facility.

Following the company’s decision to ‘streamline its operations’ the facility ceased production, and staff were either redeployed or made redundant.

A BBC Panorama investigation revealed that the retailer was forced to pledge improvements to its supply chain practices.

In September 2022, investigations revealed discrepancies in the fast-fashion retailer’s ethical practices, particularly concerning the Thurmaston Lane factory.

Despite claims of fair and ethical garment production, it was found that the factory was not meeting these promises.

The inquiry uncovered that many orders were being produced in other factories, both in Leicester and overseas, including in Morocco.

Boohoo’s decision to scale back operations at Thurmaston Lane marked the end of its venture into local manufacturing, but the site now finds new life under Allscreens Nationwide.

The relocation of Allscreens’ operations to the Thurmaston Lane warehouse is seen as a positive development for the Leicester area, providing new opportunities for local employment and growth in the windshield repair sector.
