Flooding set to cause train delays across East Midlands

The line at Elton and Orston is flooded

Torrential rain and thawing snow is causing delays and cancellations across the railway in the East Midlands this morning (January 6).

East Midlands Railway (EMR) says that heavy rain has flooded the railway between Grantham and Nottingham.

A statement from the company said: “There is no alternative route available at this time. Trains on some of our routes cannot run. We are looking at alternative arrangements. Check your journey before travelling.”

Meanwhile, due to heavy rain flooding the railway, the line between Derby and Long Eaton is currently closed.

And there are delays on the following lines:

Sheffield/Nottingham/London
Newark/Nottingham/Derby/Crewe
Matlock/Derby/Nottingham
Liverpool Lime Street/Nottingham/Norwich

EMR said: “Where possible, trains will divert. We are also making alternative arrangements to keep you on the move.”
