Peak District National Park Authority starts staff consultation on cost-cutting proposals

The Peak District National Park Authority

The Peak District National Park Authority is launching a consultation with staff over proposed changes aimed at cutting costs.

The Authority is grappling with ongoing financial strain, with its fixed government grant failing to keep up with inflation and rising costs, such as increased National Insurance contributions and the minimum wage.

Over the past decade, funding has been slashed by around 50%.

Just two years after a restructure aimed at streamlining management and investing in planning, the Authority now finds itself facing more tough decisions.

The latest proposals include cutting back on services like customer support, communications and community engagement.

Phil Mulligan, the Authority’s chief executive said: “We are facing a very challenging financial landscape. The proposals we are having to consider are extremely difficult and upsetting for everyone. We are looking at potentially cutting or reducing some of our high profile and much valued programmes. None of us want to make these decisions but they cannot be avoided unless there is significantly better news from government on our funding.”
