Former mail sorting office set to become 660-bed student hub

A historic Royal Mail sorting office in Nottingham, which is being transformed into student accommodation, is set to open this autumn.
The site on Bath Street has been vacant for 20 years and will be transformed into a 13-storey development that will offer 661 rooms.
The project, which recently celebrated its topping-out milestone, will feature a gym, communal spaces and a variety of social events, including welcome parties, cooking classes and puppy yoga.
By working with Nottinghamshire-based contractors, the project has also contributed to the local economy, with 58% of contract spending staying within the region and around 200 jobs created during construction.
Students from Nottingham’s universities and local schools have been given opportunities to engage with the development through site visits and apprenticeships.
Ben Morley, managing director of True Student said: “Increasing student numbers in Nottingham has brought enormous vibrancy to the city, but has also placed real pressure on the local private rental market. At true student we want to offer a solution to that, providing high-quality, purpose-built accommodation that not only reduces this strain but creates a thriving community for students to live, connect and grow.
“Our ultimate goal isn’t just to provide accommodation but to help students and the city embrace each other fully. From revitalising a historic site to supporting local businesses, we want this new development to benefit the city whilst also helping students thrive during their student experience, welcoming everything Nottingham has to offer. We’re excited to open our doors later this year and welcome guests into a space that redefines what student living can be.”
It is the provider’s first East Midlands location, with further developments planned in Leicester and Sheffield.
