Traffic alert: Long delays on A453

Passengers travelling to and from East Midlands Airport could be in for delays after a burnt out van blocked one lane of the A453 about an hour ago.

We are receiving reports that traffic is at a standstill and there are long delays at the junction with the M1 J24/A6/A50 (Kegworth/East Midlands Airport), with congestion leading to Kegworth Road.

Both lanes of the A453 were initally closed, but at noon police opened the northbound section.

Anyone travelling to catch a flight from East Midlands airport has been urged to ring their airline to find out when the latest they can check-in is.
