US pizza restaurant gets green light in Nottingham

Mod Pizza in Leeds

Nottingham’s restaurant revolution shows no signs of slowing down after a pizza chain was given planning permission to open in the Old Market Square.

Nottingham City Council has given MOD Pizza the green light to open on Long Row, in the former Schuh unit. The move will create around 12-15 jobs.

MOD Pizza opened its first UK restaurant in Leeds in 2015 and also has a Brighton location.

The company has grown rapidly – in 2015 Technomic recognized MOD as the fastest growing restaurant chain in the US and in the first half of 2016 MOD has grown its store base by over 40% including opening its first international store in the UK.

Today, MOD has 130 locations and more than 3,200 team members across the United States and United Kingdom.

Founders Scott and Ally Svenson created and sold Seattle Coffee Company to Starbucks in 1998 and helped launch and build the Carluccio’s brand.

Ally Svenson said: “Launching MOD in the United Kingdom feels, in many ways, like we are bringing it home.

“While we are very proud of the incredible pizza that we serve, the MOD movement is about so much more.

“We judge our success not by the number of stores we open, but the number of lives we can impact, which is why we are so excited to continue our growth. Our product may be pizza, but our purpose is people.”
