This week’s Top 10 stories: A moving tale
Us East Midlanders are still a fairly parochial lot, and so when someone who is pretty much part of the furniture in one city moves to work in another, it’s fairly big news.
That’s been the case this week, as our best-read story is Roger Merchant’s decision to leave Leicester and join Nottingham-based UHY Hacker Young. Merchant’s experience and contacts will no doubt prove invaluable to his new firm and it’ll be interesting to watch their growth over the next few months and years.
Second favourite this week was the news that GameCity, the firm which owns The National Videogame Arcade (NVA) in Nottingham has been bought out of administration by an international group of investors in a deal that has saved 40 jobs.
The NVA, which is also home to the popular GameCity festival held in Nottingham, fell into administration on 19th August after it ran out of cash.
A consortium of international investors led by GameCity director Iain Simons has taken over the running of the business. We wish them well.
Our third most popular story this week was our report on this year’s Legal 500. There was virtually no movement up and down the tiers across the East Midlands legal sector this year, as the authors of the Legal 500 pointed out that the last 12 months had been a “year of consolidation” for law firms in our region.
