On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Law firm Shakespeare Martineau has promoted one person to associate and two to legal director in Nottingham.
Beverley Smith and Richard Vernon have been promoted to legal director, as well as Rebecca Stojak to associate. The promotions mark the growth of the firm’s corporate, commercial and litigation practices.
Victoria Tester, HR director at Shakespeare Martineau, said: “Our clients are seeking advisers that are not only fluent in the law but can apply it to their businesses or personal affairs with commercial integrity. This is why the variety of courses available at the firm is so broad and includes business skills training as well as professional qualifications. There is no doubt that those who have been rewarded for all their hard work have taken advantage of the academy in order to take the next step in their careers.”
Alex Smith, partner from Shakespeare Martineau’s Nottingham office, said: “The firm’s investment in its people is very significant and it is great for clients and colleagues alike to know that we develop and have such a talented group of people. The number of promotions awarded this year is testament to the support network that the firm has in place.”
PwC’s graduate intake
PwC has welcomed 42 graduates and students into its Castle Donington practice in the East Midlands.
Across the Midlands region, the professional services firm has recruited 201 graduates and students. This is a 7% increase on its 2015 intake and also includes 132 people in its Birmingham practice in the West Midlands and 27 in its Milton Keynes office, which serves the South Midlands. The roles are spread across the firm’s assurance, tax, consulting and deals businesses. They include graduate level positions, undergraduate business placements, internships and higher apprenticeships.
Paul Norbury, the senior partner for PwC in the East Midlands, said: “We’re proud of the client and career experience we can offer to people joining us in the East Midlands, so we’re delighted to welcome so many new students and graduates to our Castle Donington office.
“This year, we’ve continued to recruit fantastic talent from our local universities and we’re also seeing an increase in applications from people who’ve been away for university and are now coming home to live and work. It’s refreshing to see the next generation of talent recognise the opportunity the East Midlands presents, with their decision is being driven by the growth potential of the region and our exciting client base.”
