Regeneration of former brickworks gathers pace

The regeneration of a former brickworks in Worksop is well underway, with work recently completing on £5.5 million worth of infrastructure projects around the site.

A grant from the D2N2 LEP has paid for a new roundabout at the entrance to the former Vesuvius site, a new access road, and the remediation of the whole site ready for development.

Property developer CEG has been carrying out the works.

Asda is currently building a 70,000 sq ft foodstore and petrol station at the site which will create 200 new retail jobs. The store is set to open in the New Year.

Will Martin, development manager at CEG, said: “It’s great to see this site coming back to life. We have already created construction jobs and training and apprenticeship opportunities, and with Asda on site this will create circa 200 permanent jobs when it opens next year.

“The first phase of the employment units will establish Vesuvius as the prime industrial and business location in Worksop, the application proposes over 40,000 sq ft of industrial and business space. The speculative scheme will be the largest of its scale in Worksop for several years and shows CEG’s commitment to the location. We have been encouraged by the interest in the site and we consider that this will provide much needed employment space in the region.”
