Conversion of former Police Station and Masonic Hall into housing approved

CGI of the Tatton Road scheme

A Sale residential scheme has been approved by Trafford Borough Council.

Southway Housing Trust is refurbishing the former Sale Police Station and replacing the former Sale Masonic Hall with a three-storey residential development.

The sustainable scheme, located off Tatton Road, comprises 30 affordable homes, addressing the growing demand for housing in the area.

The approved plans include a diverse housing mix that reflects the needs of the local community, and will comprise 10 houses ranging from one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes, nine three-bedroom apartments, and 11 two-bedroom apartments.

All properties will be available for shared ownership, ensuring accessibility and affordability for a range of households.

Lucy Hampson, development manager at Southway Housing Trust, said: “Southway Housing Trust is committed to addressing the affordable housing shortage in Trafford and this development represents an important step forward in meeting the needs of the community.

“By providing high quality homes through shared ownership, we aim to offer a pathway to home ownership and contribute to the creation of vibrant and sustainable communities.”

The development promotes sustainable transport options and pedestrian access, with front and rear access points and cycle storage facilities.

Its central location provides easy access to various amenities, such as Sale town centre and Sale Metrolink station, reducing reliance on private vehicles and contributing to a car-free community.

Throughout the planning process, Southway Housing Trust actively engaged with the local community and stakeholders, gathering valuable feedback and ensuring transparency. It said the positive response received during the community consultation further emphasises the support and recognition of the project’s benefits.
