Plans revealed for mixed-use scheme on National Express bus garage site
A masterplan is set to be drawn up with a view to creating a new canalside neighbourhood close to Birmingham city centre.
shedkm has been appointed by developer HUB to formulate plans for the 6-acre site that is currently Birmingham’s National Express Central Bus Garage.
The project is HUB’s first development outside of the South East.
A statement from shedkm said: “The site will form the heart of an emerging new area – South Digbeth – which extends regeneration to the south eastern edge of Birmingham City Council’s ‘Digbeth Quarter’, to establish a new arrival destination for the planned Midland Metro Alliance tram east extension.
“The large-scale mixed-use regeneration scheme is being evolved in collaboration with the local community to provide creative, industrial and residential uses that will facilitate long-term growth that carefully reflects the site’s rich past as a historic neighbourhood with a long industrial heritage.”
The firm is working towards an outline planning application with initial detailed plots being submitted in tandem in the first quarter of 2020.
