All jobs have been saved at an Alcester-based brewery, after it was acquired out of administration by The BREAL Group.

Purity Brewing Co., first established in 2005, had been impacted by inflation as well as seeing a reduction in discretionary spend and ultimately appointed administrators at Alvarez and Marsal who secured the deal.

60 jobs across its Purecraft Bar and Kitchen in Birmingham city centre and farm-based brewery in Alcester have been saved and join BREAL Group’s growing brewery portfolio which includes Black Sheep Brewery, as well as London-based Brew by Numbers and Brick Brewery. BREAL also owns restaurant group D&D London, which opened Orelle in 103 Colmore Row in October 2022.

Following the acquisition, Purity is still seeking to establish itself with B Corp accreditation status as well as improving on its commitment to the environment. It’s latest heat-and-steam technology is reducing energy consumption at its 90,000 hectolitres brewery as well as using a naturall ‘wetland’ system which cleanses its waste water.

John Hunt, managing director at Purity Brewing Co. commented on the acquisition: “We all know the brewining industry has had a turbulent time of late, and like many others, the business has certainly felt the pressure of rising costs. However, we’re incredibly pleased BREAL recognises the value and uniqueness of our offering and had the vision to invest in securing the future of the brewery.

“We’re very much looking forward to continuing to brew our much-loved, award-winning beers and delighting drinkers in the Midlands, London and beyond.”
